GSBS 2015 - photos

The second (and final) day of the Global Social Business Summit Main Conference has come to a spirited close. We feel uplifted, inspired, and grateful for the tremendous people involved in organizing, supporting, and participating in what turned out to be a truly wonderful event. Recently, Hayden Taylor - Founder and Managing Director of Unloc - gave his take on what it takes to succeed as a young social business entrepreneur. Unloc's mission is to help build a highly-capable, actively engaegd and civic-minded generation of young people. Unfortunately, we have an unexpected new development to share with you today. In the last weeks Prof. Yunus’ state of health, in specific his herniated disc, has deteriorated and he now requires surgery to regain his well-known strength and energy. Therefore, he is forced to decline all commitments in the upcoming weeks, including the Nobel Peace Laureate Summit and the Children Peace Prize event. To his great disappointment, Professor Yunus will therefore most likely be unable to attend the Global Social Business Summit in Berlin, which he has spent the last 9 months organizing with The Grameen Creative Lab. commitment to sustainability: carbon offsetting with caretraders

We are happy to announce our new partnership with CareTraders, who will aid our efforts to make this year's conference the most sustainable yet! With this partnership, we increase our sustainability commitment by offsetting those carbon emissions that are inevitably associated with running the conference. CareTraders will use the two principles of social responsibility and leadership when calculating the amount of emissions we will offset. social business lab wiesbaden: a recap

On Saturday, October 10th, The Grameen Creative Lab – in collaboration with Future Flux – organized a one-day, interactive workshop to develop social business ideas through a Social Business Lab in the Kreativfabrik, Wiesbaden. Midwives, teachers, consultants, social entrepreneurs and business students discussed social problems and found creative solutions to address these challenges. the berlin social economic scene

On June 26 - 30, several members of the Grameen Creative Lab had the opportunity to meet with various social entrepreneurs in Berlin. In light of the upcoming Global Social Business Summit – which will be held in Berlin as well – our aim was to better establish a local presence on site by meeting influential actors already shaping the Berlin economic scene. Throughout those few days, we have listened to the stories of various social entrepreneurs and organizations making a tremendous social impact. Read more here.

from uganda to germany: solving social challenges with brick-making

On Friday, July 10th 2015, a diverse group of twenty had the firsthand opportunity to use the MeisterBricks machine – a recent innovation from Uganda – to build Interlocking Stabilized Soil Bricks (ISSB) during a special workshop session at the beautiful outdoor site of Schloss Freudenberg in Wiesbaden, Germany. The MeisterBricks machine, a joint creation by Moses Kiiza and Moses Musaazi (a.k.a. Moses & Moses), is a revolutionary solution to the traditional clay brick-making production process still widely used in many African countries. Read more here.
